You might hear many different words associated with Yoga, many of which are modern trade phrases and can make Yoga seem complex. We believe that Yoga is very simple and personal. We have chosen not to try to answer your questions on our website, we feel that you can answer your own questions when you find a peaceful space to relax. But we would like to point our a few benefits of our classes.
In America, when people talk about Yoga, they are usually talking about some form of Hatha Yoga, seeking the Union of Mind and Body through awareness of breath and a series of poses and stretches. The breath, mind and body awareness creates a space to find your own light and joy.
We have members who have been asked to do yoga by their doctor, to recover from car accidents, broken back or neck and other physical injuries - or to address conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, scoliosis, etc. Some of the medical community appears to be embracing yoga as an effective wellness therapy. We also have members who were sent by their counselor or therapist. Yoga tends to allow a participant to become aware of sensitive areas in both mind and body - laughing and crying are normal events in our classes as our members experience emotional release by becoming present and still. At Balasana, we celebrate those moments as a chance to truly connect and share.
Here are some of the specific benefits can you expect to enjoy from doing yoga on a regular basis:
Physical Benefits * Flexibility * Strength/muscle sculpting * Pain Prevention * Better Breathing * Rehabilitative/Healing * Preventative * Sense of grace and well being * Improved posture * Improved sleep * Improved confidence * Improved state of health
Mental Benefits * Mental Calmness & clarity * Stress Reduction * Mind/Body Awareness * Improved mental health
Although we are discussing Yoga, all exercise has most of these benefits. You may find that you enjoy our Pilates, Dance, or Fitness classes also!
